There has been a remarkable increase in the graduation rate of Aboriginal students in the Regina Public School system over the last year.
It went up 11 per cent from 42 to 53 per cent. The rate for non-Aboriginal students increased 4 per cent to 85 per cent.
The board’s director of education, Greg Enion, says the results demonstrate the school division’s focus on a culture of achievement.
Provincially, the overall graduation rate for Aboriginal students increased only 1.3 per cent over the last year to 43.2 per cent. That is more than 20 per cent less than the provincial average of 76.5 per cent.
The province’s goal is to increase the Aboriginal graduation rate to 65 per cent by the year 2020.
