The African Artistic Talent Federation of Saskatchewan will feature clothing from African and First Nations designers in their bilingual fashion show on Saturday.

“We want to understand more of the (Saskatchewan) culture, and to share our culture with them. But we think finally that there is a big diversity of culture, and that it’s very important that African culture is known,” said Michel Ziriga, the president of the federation.

The event is being championed as bilingual, and will be presented in both French and English.

“We’ll have urban dresses and ribbon skirts as well. We want to promote unity between African and First Nations cultures. We are both oppressed peoples, but we are promoting resilience through our culture, our fashion and careers and our ability to say this is part of our beauty regardless of what happened has to us,” said Tala Tootoosis, a volunteer.

The fashion show will take place on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at École Canadienne-française in Saskatoon.
