Red Pheasant Election Under INAC Scrutiny

Appeals are being launched in the wake of the recent election on the Red Pheasant First Nation.

Indian Affairs spokesman James Parker says the department is looking into allegations the vote wasn’t carried out properly.

He says Indian Affairs must decide whether to uphold the appeal, dismiss it or order an investigation.

He adds the department doesn’t normally involve itself in the political processes of Indian bands.

However, the Red Pheasant election was held under the terms of the Indian Act — meaning INAC is already involved.
