Residents of Cumberland House and the surrounding area are preparing for the worst, now that the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority has placed the northern community on a flood warning.

The high water levels are expected to hit sometime this weekend.

The watershed authority says some homes in the region could very well be flooded by Saturday.

Mayor Dale McAuley says community members have been notified about the state of emergency that’s been declared there, and says some residents are already being evacuated.

McAuley says the community has also set up a base camp for residents at the school.

As for the status of the Northern Saskatchewan Games and Cultural Festival, which was to be held July 13th in Cumberland House, McAuley says that is currently up in the air.
