Keewatin Yatthe Accepts Report’s Findings

A spokesman for the Keewatin Yatthe Regional Health Authority says the health region is already putting into place recommendations outlined in a recent government
report.
Richard Petit says there is a lot of good information take into account from the document, which dealt with the contract termination of four doctors in La Loche last year.
Two of them were immediately hired back, but that didn’t stop the Saskatchewan Medical Association from blasting the move — which said it was unfair to the doctors.
Petit points out that much of the report calls for better communication to take place between doctors, the health authority and the government — a measure he feels is a good starting point for everyone involved.
Petit says Keewatin Yatthe has now filled three of its four physician positions.
He feels confident last year’s dispute has been resolved and the health region can move on.
An official with Saskatchewan Health says the department, too, is looking forward to resuming regular relations with the health region.
Assistant Deputy Minister Lawrence Krahn says his department will work harder at curbing disputes in health regions before they get out of control.
He also says it will try to take into account the unique circumstances facing northern health regions.
