A Northern mining company is hoping to enlarge one of its operations by next year.

Cogema Resources is working towards the expansion of its Sue-E site at McLean Lake.

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission is currently studying the proposal and has already stated it does not believe the establishment of the open pit mine will damage the environment.

Bob Pollack, Vice-President of Cogema’s Environmental Health and Safety, says the expansion will provide a lot of work for the company’s employees.

Under the company’s proposal, Cogema will place cleaning waste rock, overburden materials and some ore in Sills Lake as part of its summer preparatory work.

Pollack says this work will not harm the environment.
