FSIN Vice Chief Candidate Hoping To Make History

A candidate running in this month’s FSIN vice chief elections feels its an opportune time for a woman to finally be elected to the federation executive.

Cowessess Chief Pat Sparvier is hoping to unseat incumbent Second Vice Chief Guy Lonechild and hold off fellow challenger Ken Thomas.

Sparvier notes First Nations women have increased their presence in band leadership positions and at the FSIN.

However, she feels it’s high time women take the next step and get representation at the highest level of the FSIN.

Having said that, she hopes voting delegates don’t simply view her as ‘the female candidate’ in this race.

Instead, Sparvier hopes they are influenced by how she’s conducted herself on behalf of her band during her two terms as chief at Cowessess.
