Metis Activist Not Sold On Court Action

A prominent critic of the current Metis Nation of Saskatchewan executive doesn’t think court action will work in trying to force a change in leadership.

Alex Maurice is one of the candidates that officially lost to MNS president Dwayne Roth in last year’s election.

Nine people face criminal charges in connection to that controversial vote, and the RCMP is hinting that more charges are coming.

Maurice says he’s hearing that some Metis are actively trying to raise funds to launch court action in an effort to force Roth and his colleagues out of the MNS headquarters.

However, Maurice isn’t sure the courts would rule in favour of the dissidents.

He notes a Queen’s Bench justice threw out a suit put forward by fellow candidate Robert Doucette right after last year’s election.

Maurice says grassroots Metis have to be given the opportunity to decide the issue at some sort of general meeting.
