Michel Urged To Produce Audit

A resident of Pelican Narrows says the outgoing chief of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation should produce an audit before he leaves.

Lester Gardiner — who lost to Ron Michel in this past spring’s PBCN chief election — notes $3.7 million of TLE money is still unaccounted for, and many band members want to see what happened to it.

He says the lack of details from Michel and the band councillors is disconcerting.

Gardiner says because of Michel’s silence on this issue, the message this sends to band members is that it is OK for band money to disappear.

Meanwhile, Gardiner says he is anxious to see how the election process to replace Michel is carried out, now that Michel has been voted the new head of the Prince Albert Grand Council.

Gardiner believes that transition is something that needs to be done as transparently as possible.
