Records Fall As North Basks In Warm Temperatures

Several northern Saskatchewan communities experienced record high temperatures yesterday.

 

The temperature in Stony Rapids reached 15.4 degrees Celsius yesterday, shattering the old record of 12.6 degrees set in 1998.

 

Buffalo Narrows recorded a high of 14.4 degrees. The old record was 11 degrees, set back in 1982.

 

Meadow Lake beat a record for October 26th established in 1962. The mercury reached 18.3 degrees yesterday. The old record was 17.1 degrees.

 

Record highs were also recorded in Uranium City and Key Lake.

 

Meanwhile, as warm as it was in La Ronge yesterday — 13.6 degrees — that was not a new record. The record high for October 26th is still 15.2 degrees, established in 1994 and matched in 1998.

 

Environment Canada spokesman Bob Cormier says it was a warm day in southern Saskatchewan as well, but most of the records were set in the North.

 

Cormier says the system responsible for the warm air has stayed a bit longer than it normally does, which is why temperatures got as warm as they did.
