The Conservatives say North Battleford, Meadow Lake and La Ronge are just some of the Saskatchewan communities that are badly in need of more police officers.
A Saskatchewan MP says all three are among the top five communities with the highest average of Criminal Code incidents per police officer.
Yorkton-Melville MP Garry Breitkreuz says he compiled the study in response to calls he received from communities across the province.
Breitkreuz’ research showed that North Battleford topped the list with 254 incidences per police officer. Meadow Lake was 3rd on the list with 162 and La Ronge was 4th with 159.
He says that’s way too many, and claims some people in the affected communities are choosing not to report crimes because they know their local police are already tied up with other cases.
Breitkreuz says the report shows that officers in these communities are having to deal with a new criminal code incident once every two days.
