Chiefs, elders and other representatives from Meadow Lake Tribal Council First Nations are gathered in Meadow Lake this week for their annual meeting.
Yesterday, they talked about the MLTC’s on-going self-government negotiations with the provincial and federal governments.
There was also some discussion about how a new MLTC tribal chief will be selected in the New Year once long-time chief Richard Gladue makes his resignation official.
Today, the main order of business is an election.
The incumbent Dene vice chief at the MLTC, Gordon Billette, is seeking re-election.
His challengers include Chris Laplante, Noel McIntyre and former vice-chief Eric Sylvestre.
The winner will serve a four-year term in office.
The voting will be carried out by 45 delegates representing the MLTC’s nine member bands.
