The FSIN’s women’s commission is encouraged by the provincial government’s commitment to establish a task force related to missing persons.

The promise came in the throne speech earlier this week in response to some high-profile cases involving missing Aboriginal women.

Women’s commission spokesperson Erica Beaudin says it’s still too early to know what exactly the province has in mind.

However, Beaudin states Aboriginal women’s groups won’t be satisfied with the task force unless they are given a lead role.

Beaudin also says it’s important the province come through with resources and a willingness to change legislation to back up its pledge in the throne speech.
