Wolves Believed Responsible For Death In Far North

RCMP are investigating what appears to be a fatal wolf attack near Points North Landing yesterday.

 

The Mounties say 22-year-old man from Ontario had gone out for a walk on Wollaston Lake near Points North, but failed to return at 5:00 pm as scheduled.

 

Others went looking for him, and came across his body a couple of hours later.

 

The RCMP say the body had been attacked by predators.

 

An autopsy has been ordered to try to assist the RCMP in determining the exact cause of death.

 

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

 

Meanwhile, an official with the local First Nation is urging residents not to go out alone at night, especially children.

 

Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation education director Rosalie Tsannie-Burseth says there are wolves at the local dump and they wander into the community at night.

 

She says because they feed at the dump, they have become aggressive and dangerous.
