Victim Identified in Suspected Wolf Attack

RCMP officials have released the name of an Ontario man killed in a suspected wolf attack last week near Points North Landing.

 

The Saskatchewan News Network is reporting that 22-year-old Kenton Joel Carnegie, of Oshawa, Ontario, was a third-year geological engineering student at the University of Waterloo.

 

An autopsy indicates he was likely killed by predators, and the Mounties have said wolf tracks were located at the scene.

 

Saskatchewan Environment spokesman Art Jones says the department is currently investigating the incident to confirm if it was, in fact, wolves that caused the death.

 

Jones says this incident could potentially be the first documented case of a fatal wolf attack since 1900, noting that a wolf attack occurred last year near the Key Lake mine site. The victim in that instance suffered only minor injuries.

 

Jones says two wolves from the area have been killed and are being sent for testing in Saskatoon.

 

He also says Saskatchewan Environment is not confirming that the two animals killed were involved in the attack.
