The government says aid from the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program is flowing to over 84 Saskatchewan municipalities and other communities that were ravaged by storms and flooding this past summer, including Cumberland House.
The program compensates communities and residents for damages or losses to essential uninsurable property caused by natural disasters.
The province normally pays out about $550,000 a year on claims — this year, it will be about $14.7 million.
In Cumberland House, $180,000 has been paid to the village and the local First Nation for mitigation efforts to prevent flooding.
A spokesman for the assistance program says other claims from the community are still being reviewed.
Overall, the government says it is currently processing more than 1,500 claims from across the province.
