We will find out next Wednesday how the province intends to use its budget surplus to upgrade northern roads.
That’s when the government is expected to unveil more details about its promised northern roads strategy.
In yesterday’s mid-year financial report, Finance Minister Harry Van Mulligen stated that $59 million of the province’s higher-than-expected oil revenues would go to northern roads.
To put that in perspective, the usual annual budget for northern road projects is $30 million.
The government has already indicated in the throne speech that it plans to go ahead with the long-awaited all-weather road network in the Far North.
