Members of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation head to the polls today to vote in a byelection for chief.

Chief electoral officer Ted J. Merasty says of the 9 candidates vying for the top spot, six are from Pelican Narrows. They include Lester Gardiner, Eileen Linklater, Harold Linklater, John Merasty, Stan J. Merasty and Tommy Sewap.

The other three people running for chief are Cornelius Ballantyne of Deschambault Lake and Ernest Cook and Hector Morin of Southend.

Voters will be choosing a successor to former chief Ron Michel, who recently resigned after winning the chief election at the Prince Albert Grand Council.
