Election Call Worries Primrose Committee

The chairman of the Primrose Air Weapons Range Negotiating Committee says he hopes the upcoming federal election doesn’t derail all the hard work that’s been put into an economic development package for four Metis communities in northwest Saskatchewan.

Alex Maurice says work on the $19-million deal is presently stalled, as the country prepares to elect its new government.

Maurice worries the agreement will be in jeopardy if the government changes.

The agreement is designed to benefit those Metis who were forced off the weapons range by the government several decades ago.

Maurice says several bylaws and a trust agreement have already been worked out, and the final agreement itself is close to being signed.
