A convicted sex offender accused of committing more sex-related crimes in Prince Albert appeared in court today.

56-year-old James Michael Bomek stands charged of 18 offenses in total — 12 of them include sexual assault, sexual interference with someone under the age of 14 and attempting to corrupt morals.

The other six counts are related to an incident in October, when a joint task force involving the RCMP and Prince Albert Police Service arrested him for allegedly selling drugs while operating a hot dog cart in the city’s downtown area.

Today in Prince Albert Provincial Court, the judge ordered a preliminary hearing to commence on March 15th.

However, Bomek’s lawyer warned it could last longer than one day because of the number of witnesses.

Two potential trial dates have been tentatively scheduled for April 5th and April 7th.

If the trial goes ahead, it will be by judge alone.

This isn’t the first time Bomek has been in trouble with the law.

In 2001, he was charged with approximately 40 sex-related charges for actions allegedly committed during his time as a lawyer in northeast Saskatchewan.

In the end, he pleaded guilty to nine counts of sexual assault and served a year in jail before being released on parole.
