Doctor Shortage In Big River Not Over

The Big River First Nation is once again without doctors.
This week, it was learned that the physician who had arrived in the nearby town this summer to practice medicine is preparing to leave.
In the weeks prior to his arrival, physician services were not available in the region.
Band health director Lorette Dreaver says it is very frustrating for residents to have to drive to Shellbrook or Prince Albert for treatment.
Dreaver hopes to talk to officials from the health region today to learn if new doctors will be coming.
She says two doctors are needed to fix the situation, since one doctor cannot run the local health facility alone.
