The NDP candidate in the northern Saskatchewan election race says her party will make the safety of women in Canada a priority if they are to win the federal election.

Anita Jackson says northern Saskatchewan is dealing with an increase in physical and sexual assaults, which she says needs to be dealt with politically and on a community level, as well.

Jackson says the NDP is going to team up with Amnesty International and the Native Women’s Association of Canada to target violence against women.

Jackson helped organize a memorial service last night in La Ronge for the 14 women who died in the Montreal massacre 16 years ago.
