Northern Saskatchewan’s Conservative MP is expressing some reservations over the impending lawsuit filed by survivors of the residential school in Ile-a-la-Crosse.

The Merchant Law Group in Regina has filed a statement of claim against the federal government for excluding former residents of that school in the recently-announced compensation agreement for residential school survivors.

Jeremy Harrison says he’s concerned money intended to compensate the survivors will end up in the hands of lawyers.

Harrison also points out the survivors wouldn’t feel compelled to take this action if the Liberal government had included them in the compensation deal.

He adds the Conservative Party has made it clear to the Ile-a-la-Crosse survivors that compensation will be delivered to them if the Tories win the January 23rd federal election.
