The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has approved an application from Cogema Resources to expand its mining operation at McClean Lake.

Company spokesman Alan Richards says they actually began preparatory work on their Sue-E site earlier this summer, but now they can begin open pit mining.

The company expects the new site to generate 3,200 tonnes more uranium when all is said and done.

There are currently 265 employees working at the McClean Lake mine.
