Band Up In Arms Over Casino Property

The chief of the Mosquito-Grizzly Bear’s Head-Lean Man First Nation says it’s about time his band became a landlord.
Chief Kelly Bird says he isn’t happy about how his band has been treated by Indian Affairs or the First Nations Heritage Corporation.
Right now, the two groups are the ones controlling the lease of North Battleford’s Gold Eagle Casino, which sits on reserve land of the Mosquito band.
Bird says his First Nation should have been granted sub-lease status, and he can’t believe the band is not in charge of groups operating on their territory.
INAC has said it wants 60 days to address the matter.
Bird says he’ll be watching closely.
