FSIN Urges Government To Fund SICC Building

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Third Vice-Chief called a news conference on Friday, to urge the Federal and Provincial governments to support the expansion of a First Nation’s Keeping House and Museum in Saskatoon.

Delbert Wapass, who also sits as a chairman of the Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Center, says the SICC wants to move to a new building in Saskatoon.

He says this is a perfect opportunity for the two levels of government to support in the purchase, restoration, and retrofitting of the new building, in efforts towards reconciliation for loss of language and culture through the Indian Residential school process.

Wapass says the SICC’s Keeping House will offer traditional First Nations events to patrons and the community, including sweats and tours of the artifact museum.

Wapass added that the SICC received funding for the new facility, which will be located on Idylwyld Drive in Saskatoon, from the Saskatchewan Centennial Capital Initiative.
