Graduation Rates Improving In The North

The number of high school students graduating in northern Saskatchewan appears to be on the rise.
Saskatchewan Learning spokesperson Edith Nudge says in 2000/2001, 170 students graduated at schools above the Northern Administrative District line.
In 2003/2004, that number shot up to 218 students.
She credits an increase in community schools and new aboriginal-based policies as the main factors behind the jump.
Nudge says it’s hard to gauge drop-out rates in the North, because of a variety of factors.
However, she says the number of northern youth choosing to go on to university doubled in 2001 from 1994.
