The Melfort Peewee AA Mustangs got a unique opportunity on Sunday when they travelled north to practice at the JRMCC, which is located on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
“We have a couple local boys playing on the Melfort Peewee AA team, Sage Roberts and Kendon Skalicky,” said Kevin Roberts, the father of Sage Roberts.
“They travel there (Melfort) twice a week for weekly practices, and we approached the coach and the manager and said ‘hey, why not bring the team to La Ronge?’ Give the rest of the team an experience of what these guys have to go through every week.”
The Mustangs also took part in the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup Challenge this year, which was a contest that hockey teams could enter if they performed a good deed. For its good deed, the Melfort Peewee club decided to donate equipment to JRMCC Minor Hockey.
Roberts added that the feedback from the team was positive and the players took part in a feast while visiting northern Saskatchewan.
