The Aboriginal Provincial Broomball Championships were supposed to take place this weekend on the Saulteaux First Nation, but the event has been cancelled due to a lack of entries.
“Well unfortunately, there wasn’t enough interest, I guess you could say,” said Grant Moccasin, an organizer with the event.
“Broomball once was a thriving sport in Saskatchewan for Aboriginals. We tried to revive it here again on Saulteaux by hosting the Aboriginal Broomball Championships.”
According to a poster for the event, the cost enter a team was $300. Meanwhile, Moccasin says they were expecting teams from all over to take part in the action, including La Ronge.
This year would have been the 19th edition of the Aboriginal Provincial Broomball Championships.
