Cameco has announced details of an agreement it signed recently with Points Athabasca Contracting over contract work at the Cigar Lake project.
The uranium mining giant has agreed to purchase high-strength concrete tunnel liners for the Cigar Lake mine site.
The agreement will lead to the development of a manufacturing facility at Points North, which will offer seasonal employment for 15 people.
Cameco CEO Jerry Grandey notes this will be the first significant manufacturing operation developed in northern Saskatchewan to serve the uranium mining industry.
The company will purchase tunnel liners manufactured at Points North for up to 15 years. The concrete segments are used to reinforce underground tunnels.
The estimated value of the work is $40 million.
Points Athabasca Contracting is a joint venture industrial construction company that is owned 75 per cent by the seven communities in the Athabasca Basin.
