An event in Saskatoon is hoping to bring innovation to the province’s mining industry.
The first-ever DemoDay will see several eager entrepreneurs present their innovations and ideas to leading companies in the industry.
Five mining companies will be presented with five possibly groundbreaking innovations throughout the day.
The event is hosted by the International Minerals Innovation Institute, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Industrial and Mining Suppliers Association.
“We are excited to see what will come out of this,” said IMII Executive Director, Al Shpyth.
Sphyth says often times these innovators don’t realize the value of their idea.
“I think they are not sure if there is support for them, so we hope DemoDay will help us bring these ideas to market,” said Shpyth. “We want them available to the industry so operations can run better, more safely and more productive.”
Innovations set to be presented at DemoDay include a new style of conveyor belt, a new arm for underground bore miners, as well as a portable and easy to move fall protection system.
Shpyth says he is excited to see these innovations in action.
Several sectors in the mining industry are currently experiencing a downturn in business, however, Shpyth believes innovation is key to turning things around.
