The 18th edition of the Lawrence Weenie Cup Indigenous hockey tournament takes place in North Battleford this weekend.
Twenty-four teams are scheduled to get on the ice. There’s four divisions, including senior recreation and legends.
“Generally, recreational tournaments are more like a Senior B – Senior C level,” said Milton Tootoosis, the organizer of the tournament. “There’s the odd Senior A level player that shows up.”
Games start tonight, with things scheduled to conclude on Sunday. You can catch the action at the North Battleford Civic Centre and the Don Ross Arena.
In addition to hockey, there’s a few other things running in association with the event.
A volleyball tournament is taking place at the Sakewew High School, as well as an eight-ball billiards tournament at DC’s Billiards in North Battleford.
