The RCMP says it has recovered the body of a snowmobiler who went through thin ice on Dore Lake Monday afternoon.

A witness told police that they saw a local resident driving across the ice, but then lost sight of the snowmobile. The witness began calling community members to see if the snowmobiler made it home, but the person was not located.

Green Lake RCMP began its search that evening, locating a set of tracks going on to the ice of Dore Lake, but not coming off. Mounties report that the shoreline was getting weak.

Police say the members of the Big River SERM office flew a drone over the lake the next day and located the deceased body of the missing snowmobiler in the water near the shoreline.

The body was recovered and identified as the missing snowmobiler. The deceased’s name is not being released.
