One of the presidential candidates in the disputed 2004 Métis Nation of Saskatchewan vote was present for yesterday’s court-case and called on the Métis National Council President to step in.

Robert Doucette provided a Victim Impact Statement revealing the forgery scandal had cost him emotionally, financially and personally.

He also said outside the courthouse, that current MNC President Clem Chartier must explain to the public exactly where he stands on the case.

Doucette says if Chartier can not take a strong stand on this issue, he doesn’t belong where he is. He was quoted as saying “He supposed to be the defender of all of our (Métis) rights, not just hunting, trapping, and fishing.”

Doucette says the RCMP should also lay charges on other people associated with the case, because it’s clear it went farther than just the 9 people who are presently charged.
