The province is asking all residents to be “emergency ready” for whatever disaster there may be.
Saskatchewan has proclaimed this week as Emergency Preparedness Week.
“This week, I urge everyone in Saskatchewan to take a few hours and become emergency ready. You can do this by identifying risks in your community, making a plan to respond to those risks and preparing or getting an emergency preparedness kit that contains at least 72 hours of supplies, in the event that local services are disrupted from man-made or natural disasters,” said Deputy Commissioner of Emergency Management, Ray Unrau.
Officials ask that your kit should include:
- Bottled water
- Non-perishable foods and a manual can opener
- A flashlight, radio and batteries
- First aid kit
- Cash
- Prescriptions, medications and medical documents
- Important documents, such as personal identification, photographs of your family members and up-to-date contact information
The government is encouraging everyone to download the SaskAlert app.
“The program notifies residents of emergencies in their area in real time, so they can take action to protect themselves, their families and their property,” said Government Relations Minister, Warren Kaeding.
An emergency province-wide alerting test will be conducted Wednesday at 1:55 p.m. via radio, TV, text message alerts and alerts on the SaskAlert app and website.
