Two Paralympic athletes will be touring the north this week.
Brittany Hudak and Colette Bourgonje, who have both competed at Paralympic Games, start the tour in La Ronge today. They will be speaking to students at various schools.
“The main goal is to try and raise awareness about para-sports, mainly within the province and the support that we have for any athletes kind of looking to get involved,” said Hudak. “We’re hoping that people want to be more involved in cross-country skiing in general.”
Hudak, from Prince Albert, competed at the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games in South Korea. She captured bronze in the 12.5 kilometre biathlon.
Bourgonje, a Saskatoon product, is a veteran of seven Winter Paralympic Games. Bourgonje took part in the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, where she earned a silver medal and a bronze medal in cross-country skiing.
“Our focus is to try to recruit more athletes or give them the opportunity to see what is available in their life,” she said
The tour is scheduled to conclude on Friday in Hall Lake.
