The company working to set up a marijuana retail outlet in La Ronge says it wants input from Indigenous people.
Aura Cannabis was granted a permit for the town and hopes to have a store open by this fall. Executive Vice-President Andrew Gordon says the company is in the midst of the development application permit process, which lasts 45 days, and would like to meet with local groups.
“And to connect with Indigenous groups, First Nation and Metis as well,” he said. “I recognize that we are on Treaty Six territory here, and I look forward to engaging with Lac La Ronge First Nations.”
Gordon says a public forum could be held in La Ronge next month to gather input from the public.
He says numbers are not final at this time, but the marijuana retail outlet could be open this fall and could employ five to 12 full- and part-time employees.
Details like the location of the store and the hours of operation are still being worked out with the town.
