Aspiring young writers in La Ronge and area will have a chance to hone their skills this summer as part of a creative writing workshop.
The workshop is put on by Sage Hill Writing and will run from July 30 to Aug. 3 at Senator Myles Venne School in Air Ronge.
Sage Hill Writing Executive Director Tara Solheim says the workshop is open to anyone who has an interest in writing, regardless of economic circumstance.
“It’s a free of charge workshop, where they come every day, for five days, and they work on writing and telling stories,” she says. “They work with a published author and also a local guest and have really great experiences and I think it will be a really great program this summer.”
Solheim also stresses anyone who thinks they may have even a moderate interest in the craft of writing is encouraged to take part.
“The main thing is if you’re interested in stories and you have a story to tell, this is a good place to come to figure out how to tell it. They don’t need to be developed as writers to take part, they just need to be interested in stories.”
The workshop is open to those between the ages of 11 and 14.
It will be taught by Alex Robertson Public Library Writer-in-Residence Miriam Korner, who is the author of Yellow Dog and When the Trees Crackle with Cold.
There will also be a special guest appearance by local writer and Lac La Ronge Indian Band member Nancy Lafleur – the author of Finding Lost.
For those needing transportation, rides can be arranged from both La Ronge and Air Ronge.
Sage Hill Writing is also offering similar workshops this summer in Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Regina and Saskatoon.
