RCMP in Manitoba have arrested two women from Flin Flon and Denare Beach with Uttering Threats and Public Incitement of Hatred, following a Facebook rant of racially charged comments towards First Nations people.
Mounties say the hateful and threatening language on social media, comes following several complaints of vandalized cars in Flin Flon.
Authorities say a third arrest is pending.
The names of the people arrested are not being released, prior to the charges being read in court.
FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron says the charges are what his group expects the RCMP to do more of.
The federation is calling on Saskatchewan’s RCMP to follow through with statements made following the Gerald Stanley verdict.
It says the RCMP needs to enforce online hate speech investigations and lay charges against those who post life-threatening messages online that incite hatred or violence towards First Nations people in Saskatchewan.
Following the Stanley verdict, the FSIN Special Investigations Unit says it received numerous threatening and racist messages, screen shots and photos from concerned members of the public.
The FSIN says these files have been provided to the RCMP for further investigation, but there have been no charges.
