Creighton RCMP have released the name of a man charged with stealing a truck with a three-year-old girl in the back seat on Tuesday.

Forty-two-year-old Terrance Charles Nickerson of Medicine Hat, Alberta is charged with kidnapping without a firearm, theft of a truck, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting a peace officer and abduction of a person under 16.

Police say they responded to a report of a truck being stolen outside a business on the main street of Creighton at about 1 p.m. on July 31.

They say they believed the truck to be headed toward Flin Flon and a chase ensued.

The truck was rendered inoperable after hitting a spike belt and rear-ending another vehicle outside Cranberry Portage.

The driver then fled, but was later apprehended after an RCMP police dog found him in a nearby bush.

Police also discovered the girl in the back seat of the truck unharmed and she was reunited with her mother.

The driver sustained injuries from a dog bite and the vehicle collision.

RCMP say the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba will be reviewing the incident.

Nickerson will make his first appearance in Creighton provincial court via video on Thursday.
