The high school football campaign gets underway today in northern Saskatchewan.

The Northern Saskatchewan Football League officially kicks off this afternoon when the La Loche Lakers host the Pinehouse Lakers at 3 p.m.

The league is entering its sixth season of play.

“We’ve had a lot of support for many different organizations, including most recently the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who came to La Ronge on May 13 and ran a camp with us and then put out a promotional video,” said Mark Williment, who is with the league.

The La Ronge Churchill Chargers don’t play in the Northern Saskatchewan Football League anymore.

They take part in nine-aside football. Their season gets going on Friday at 4 p.m. when Melfort makes its way to La Ronge.
