La Ronge’s Bryce Fiske is getting set for his first season of post-secondary hockey with the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Ridgebacks in Oshawa.
Fiske played four seasons in the SJHL with the La Ronge Ice Wolves and the Humboldt Broncos. In 218 games, he tallied 84 points and recorded 399 penalty minutes.
“It’s kind of like going from midget to juniors,” said Fiske. “The strength is a little bit different and the speed is a little bit faster. Guys are a little bit more shifty, so I’ll just have to adjust accordingly.”
Fiske also reflected on his time with the Ice Wolves. He says one of his best memories is playing with the team during the 2015-16 season.
“It was a good year, we had a good team – great group of guys,” said Fiske. “That was probably my biggest memory, obviously the fishing trips are a good time every year.”
Fiske will be taking business at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
Fiske is one of the survivors of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash that killed 16 people and injured 13 in April when the team was travelling to a playoff game in Nipawin.
Another former La Ronge Ice Wolves player, Derek Patter, also survived the crash. Patter is back on the ice this season with the Broncos.
