The life of slain RCMP Constable Robin Cameron is being remembered this afternoon on the Beardy’s/Okemasis First Nation.

An overflow crowd numbering well into the thousands has gathered at the Willow Cree Memorial Sports Centre for Cameron’s funeral.

The audience includes Mounties from across the country, dignitaries, family, friends and band members.

Family members are talking about the impact of Cameron’s death, their pride in her accomplishments and how much she is missed.

A Canadian flag is draped across her coffin, and a large picture of Cameron has been placed on a chair nearby.

The ceremony is a mixture of Aboriginal tradition and RCMP protocol. Before it began, drummers began to play honour songs and the smell of sweetgrass filled the arena.

Family members walked past the casket before the ceremony. One of them, a young woman, collapsed into tears as she made her way by Cameron’s body.
