Escaped Prisoner Back In Custody

A Black Lake man who allegedly escaped custody in the Stony Rapids courthouse earlier this week has been recaptured.

25-year-old Rexy Jonas Donard was apprehended by the RCMP without incident at around 1:00 this morning in Black Lake.

The Mounties say Donard ran out out the back of the Stony Rapids courthouse late Tuesday morning while having a discussion with his lawyer.

According to the RCMP, he was wearing belly chains and handcuffs at the time, but not leg shackles.

An extensive search of the area immediately after his escape was unsuccessful.

Donard was in court that day on an assault charge, but will likely be facing more charges when he makes his next court appearance in Stony Rapids this coming Tuesday.
