The Chief of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band says she wants to represent the Liberals in the 2019 federal election.
Tammy Cook-Searson, today announced she would seek the nomination for the Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River riding, currently held by New Democrat Georgina Jolibois.
Cook-Searson says she wants to be a “strong voice” for Northern Saskatchewan focusing her efforts while on Parliament Hill on improving health care and jobs.
“To balance economic development with social development, because we do need jobs for northerners. We also have to focus on the social issues in our communities,” Cook-Searson said. “[I want] to be able to try to bring up the economic development and economic opportunities for northerners. People always want jobs, contracts and access to good training and education. Those are key things people are looking for in Northern Saskatchewan.”
Cook-Searson says northerners need better access to health care, specifically psychiatrists.
She is the first person to declare for the Liberals. Meadow Lake mayor Gary Vidal is seeking the Conservative nomination.
