Northern Saskatchewan is getting set to host a big broomball event.
The 19th annual Aboriginal Provincial Broomball Championships come to La Ronge in March.
Leonard Isbister is with the event and he says they are expecting a few teams from La Ronge to take part.
“It’s early yet, but we’re hoping to have at least four teams from La Ronge in the tournament, just because we have six teams in the league,” said Isbister. “I’ve sent out a few pamphlets out to Ahtahkakoop and one also to Saulteaux.”
There’s two divisions at the tournament – minor or adult. Isbister is expecting the competition level to be stiff.
“La Ronge has got some really hot teams in the league, people are missing out, coming to see some really high-calibre broomball,” said Isbister. “We have a team in town called the Snipers, they go south – compete all the time.”
The tournament runs March 15-17 at the JRMCC.
