Aboriginal Government Employees to Talk to Youth

Volunteers from Saskatchewan’s public service have created a new speakers bureau to speak to the province’s Aboriginal youth.

The Aboriginal Government Employees’ Network, or AGEN, is responsible for creating the bureau, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Public Service Commission.

The bureau is aimed at convincing Aboriginal youth to not only stay in school, but to consider a career with the public service, as well.

The bureau even has a Cree name — Pikiskwewak — which means “they speak” in Cree.

The speakers come from a number of First Nations and Metis communities in Saskatchewan and all are employees with government departments and Crown corporations.

Information about the bureau will be sent to schools this fall.
