December got off to a busy start for RCMP detachments and the Combined Traffic Safety Sections with National Safe Driving Week taking place from Dec. 1-7.
Members in Saskatchewan were on the lookout for distracted and aggressive driving, speeding and those not wearing a seat belt.
A traffic stop was conducted in Saskatoon during the week.
During the stop, a driver admitted to possessing drugs in the vehicle and gave a false name.
Officers searched the vehicle and found controlled substances and weapons.
The driver is facing a number of charges including resisting/obstructing a peace officer, driving without a license and registration certificate, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and four weapons-related offences.
One vehicle was also stopped in Waskesiu for driving 151 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 2 near Montreal Lake.
The driver was fined $809.
951 speeding and/or stunt driving charges were laid during National Safe Driving Week.
