Harrison “Leaning” Towards Running For Old Seat

Former MP Jeremy Harrison says he detected no ill will towards him during a recent tour of his old riding.

Harrison says he is now “leaning towards running” in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River in the next federal election.

Some northern leaders have suggested Harrison will have a tough time overcoming the fallout from his “banana republic” comments following the election.

But Harrison says no one in the communities he visited asked him about it, although he did feel compelled to explain his side of the story.

Harrison claims many constituents are unhappy with current MP Gary Merasty’s performance — and believe he isn’t having the desired impact in Ottawa as a member of the Opposition.

Harrison also says he heard complaints about Merasty choosing to live in Saskatoon rather than in the riding.

As well, Harrison says the people he talked to were dissatisfied with the amount of time Merasty has spent in the constituency.

Merasty wasn’t immediately available for comment.
