Saskatchewan RCMP have released the results of an Independent Review of a North Battleford officer-involved shooting.
Brydon Whitstone, a 22-year-old man from Onion Lake Cree Nation was shot and killed following a brief police pursuit in North Battleford on October 21st, 2017.
Manitoba RCMP examined all the facts surrounding the case to ensure policies and procedures were followed.
The review identified one procedural gap in regards to how the officers were managed immediately after the shooting.
They say Mounties involved in serious cases should be separated and they should not discuss the event.
The internal review determined that the RCMP officer who shot and killed Whitstone was immediately removed from the scene.
However, other officers there later met at the North Battleford Detachment after the shooting.
RCMP officials say they do not believe this meeting had any impact on the investigation into the death.
In a release, RCMP stated they are able make the results of the review public now after discussing the matter with the Whitstone family.
